It has certainly been a great year so far for the Malta Young Sailors athletes competing in various competitions abroad. Following on from the successful results in the run up regatta to the Worlds in Vilamaoura, Portugal - an event won by local sailor Richard Schultheis - Malta's Victoria Schultheis has come away as the female 2016 World Optimist Champion. Victoria has been very consistent with her good results over the past couple of years or so and it is a well deserved win.
Jake Satariano and Lucas le Gault raced in the Bronze division where Jake missed the top podium position during the last race coming in 3rd overall in his class.
There has been a lot of training and build up to this, the top Optimist event of the year. This must be a very proud moment for team coach, Jean Paul Fleri Soler, who has dedicated so much of his time to both the young racers and the Malta Young Sailors Club.
