Malta Takes Podium Place at the Vilamoura Pre-Worlds Test Event

Our young Maltese sailing athletes have done it once again . 11 year old Richard Schultheis has won the pre event regatta in Vilamoura, Portugal.  Following him in second place was Roko Ok Mohr from Germany with Victoria Schultheis from Malta in third place. Two podium places for the Maltese team. Jake Satariano an Antonio Schultheis also sailed well amongst the tough competition finishing 24th and 30th respectively.
With a 69 sailors from 14 nations, a total of 9 races were sailed over a course that had predominantly South Westerly winds.
Jake Satariano and Victoria Schultheis are staying on for the Worlds which take place between the 25th June and 4th July. They will be joined by fellow team member Lucas le Gault.

The Malta World's Team are being sponsored by MAPFRE and CROSSCRAFT.

Malta Sailing Catch Up

I have been very much behind in following the local sailing scene recently.
So a quick catch up of just a couple of events where our local sailors have, once again, put Malta on the sailing map.
Some time back in May a team of 4 from the Malta Young Sailors Club took part in the Dutch Youth Regatta in Workum. With a fleet of  704 sailors from 22 countries the regatta was certainly not lacking participation.
Young Richard Schultheis has been getting stronger and stronger in his sailing ability over the past year ending this event in a very credible 2nd place overall and 1st place in the Cadet class. The other Maltese sailors also showed how competitive  these  sailors are with Victoria Schultheis finishing in 4th place overall, Antonia Schultheis in 9th place and Craig Farrugia Vella in 13th place overall.

At this moment a team are over in Portugal taking part in the Vilamoura test event which runs up to this year's Optimist World Championship in Vilamoura, Portugal.. Taking part are Antonia, Victoria and Richard Schultheis and Jake Satariano. Jake had participated in the World Championships in Argentina a couple of years back.
So far, after five races sailed with 69 entries, results are very promising. Their positions being:

4th  Victoria Schultheis
9th   Richard Schultheis
25th Jake Satariano
28th Antonia Schultheis

And on to the bigger boats. UNICA, owned and skippered by Jamie Sammut,
recently returned after a successful regatta in Sardinia. The team consisted of Jamie Sammut, Alan, Sammut, John Cachia, Michael Albanozzo, Anthony Demajo, Joe Vassallo, Jeremy Gravina and Kevin Dalli. The event, specifically for Solaris yachts, took place in Porto Rotondo with around 35 yachts racing. Racing was over two days in which UNICA won both races on handicap - the second race leading by five and a half minutes.
