The 2014 Optimist World Championships have come to an end after a dramatic stormy end.
Day 1 of the finals was a strong wind with gusts up to 30 knots and rough seas. Day 2 was cancelled as there was a storm during the night leaving in its wake quite a mess due to the high tides, strong winds and heavy rain. Day 3 they managed to hold a final race in just 6 knots of wind and during this race Nicola Rolaz from Switzerland managed to clinch the world title.
Jake Satariano has done Malta proud. This is his first World Championship at the tender age of 12 and has proved his sailing ability by qualifying in the Gold fleet to be competing amongst the best Oppie sailors in the world. Jake finished in 62nd place overall which puts him in
the top third of the entire 209 strong fleet - an excellent start to what looks like a very promising sailing career for this young man.
