Jake Satariano has made it through the qualifiers and is in the Gold Fleet competing for the coveted prize of being World Champion in the Optimist Class.
At just 12 years old he is one of the youngest competitors and will have stiff competition sailing against seasoned 15 year old Oppie sailors.
Out of a total fleet of 207 young sailors, Jake qualified after he obtained an overall result of 38th place following 6 races in which his worst race could be discarded. His first race was his best crossing the line in 7th place.
Wind conditions have been light with a very strong tide and currents. The race venue is not an easy one to sail on which adds extra credit to Jake's sailing skills, especially as he has trained and sailed mostly within Mediterranean non tidal waters.
Taking 1st place in the qualifiers is Slovakian girl Mara Turin followed by Swiss boys Nick Zeltner and Nicolas Rolaz in 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Argentina's home boy, Dante Cittadini, who started off the event with a first placing, finished 15th overall after the 6 races.
