21st March, 2013 - Windsurfing Ghallis, Malta

Some footage put together from the other day. Almost gale force winds and a good wind direction. A bit shaky in some bits - zoomed out too much.

And it's Another Windy Day

It has certainly been a windy season this year. Today was blowing a good force 7 North Westerly wind. Below are just a few photos of the action at Ghallis.

Weekend Walkabout

Lovely weather for a walk last weekend and took a long walk and trek through various fields from Ghammar  around the Jordan lighthouse and back up through Wied il-Ghasri. Below are some of the photos I took.

Dried out stump of a Prickly Pear tree

Beneath the undergrowth lies a cave which had some water in it. There were also tie holes where animals used to be tied probably hundred of years ago.

A clay hillock basically jutting out of nowhere creating an interesting landscape

The Jordan Lighthouse

Qbajjar calming down after the storm

Fossils seeing the light for the first time after millions of years

Prickly Pear tree

This speaks for itself!

Interesting moss/lichen on rock

These windmills are still extensively in use in the Maltese Islands

Some People enjoy Gale Force Winds

Last week we had some westerly gale force winds creating a large shore break at Ghallis. I took some video of the lads out windsurfing making the most of the conditions.

Water Droplet Photography Experiment

Have a few hours to myself this morning so experimenting with water drops. I have quite a fascination with water in my photographs - in otherwords when I take a photo of anything where water is concerned the first thing I look at is whether the spray, drops or whatever of the water look good. Just something I love about the effects of water. So this morning I thought I would experiment with water droplets. I got some advice from the online DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SCHOOL (which is a really great site by the way) and have been playing around for the past hour or so. Above are 3 of my best shots - most were pretty awful. I used various things like manual focus, shutter speed variations etc. but found it best right now for me just to focus (excuse the pun!) on the aperture. Above is an ISO of 100 with aperture at f/5.6.
