Rolex Middle Sea Race 2013 - The Race So Far

36 hours into the race and the fleet have all made great progress ...............until now! They rounded Stromboli and have now got stuck in a windless hole causing the rest of the fleet to catch up. It looks a bit like a start line on the TRACKER. The large boats are well ahead and the leading boat, MORNING GLORY, has now rounded Favignana and has caught the good bit of wind there is off the Western coast of Sicily. Unless the wind picks up off the North coast of Sicily within the next few hours I suspect it will be the big boats claiming the top prize.
It is interesting to note that the only classic yacht taking part, INFANTA, has been amongst the leaders at each check point so far and was actually 1st overall passing through Messina. A beautiful graceful boat built in 1947 - it was lovely to see the Skipper wearing the traditional blazer and cap and the crew wearing white boiler suits on the start. A picture of this can be seen on my previous blog post.
