Above image nicked from some website or other - not sure which!

** When cats are happy or pleased, they squeeze their eyes shut

** The elephant is the only animal with 4 knees

** The percentage of people dreaming in black and white started decreasing after the spread of color TV

** Just days before the World Cup of 1966 in England, the trophy was stolen and then later retrieved by a dog

** Men crave food that is high in fat and salt while women crave chocolate

** A cat’s brain is closer related to human’s brains than a dog’s brain

** White cats with blue eyes are often deaf, however, if they have only one blue eye they are deaf in the ear closest to the blue eye

Ghallis Today!

This afternoon was one of those very enjoyable sails/surfs when I felt really comfortable with the kit etc and I felt really good enjoying a fun afternoon on the water.

No piccies but just LOVED surfing today. Hope it won't be too long till we get some more good wind - we don't get so much in the summer months though, but who knows maybe we will have a good summer season with a bit of everything to be able to enjoy windsurfing and the boat aswell!

Team Seb & Ben

Pic taken from their Facebook page

Team Seb & Ben are doing the European circuit this summer as a start towards their bid to qualify in the 49er Class for the 2012 Olympics in England.

They have just recently updated their equipment and have a new boat which should help gain a bit of boat speed after sailing a pretty old hull up until now.
So far they have competed in regattas in France, Italy and Holland and their next lot of races should take place in Kiel, Germany during Kiel week between the 19th and 23rd of this month. The big test will take place in Poland in July during the European Championships which should give them a very good idea where they stand (at least European wise) at this stage of their training.

We know all the sailing and surfing community here in Malta wish them both the best of luck. It is going to be far from 'plain sailing' (excuse the pun!!) for them but have to say I admire the guts they have to do it cos it is pretty tough going.

Good luck boys - Forza Malta!

Surfers Beach Clean Up Day

International Surfing Day will be marked for the first time in Malta next Sunday with a day of activies at Ghajn Tuffieha beach. The event is being organised by Surf Malta and That's Rubbish Malta, two organisations which merged recently with the goal of raising environmental awareness.
During the day they will be trying to educate those around about recycling and disposing of plastic rubbish properly. There will also be various activities going on with beach and sea bed clean ups, surf excercises and lessons, live acoustic gig and jamming session and before sunset yoga and a sunset paddle. So it will be an action packed day.
This event is open to all and for more info log onto:

My Photo Wins a Competition!

''Our alley'' in Triq il-Karmnu, Victoria, Gozo taken in the evening during the Notte Gozitana this year
Thanks to friends messaging me this morning I discovered that I had won a weekly photographic competition in the local paper (Sunday Times of Malta) which I had entered and promptly forgot about!! I have won a Vodafone mobile phone - the question now is will I ever be able to figure out and remember how to use it!

Lovely Snorkelling!

I took the pic off the internet cos didn't have a camera with me, but this is where I was snorkelling yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon my daughter and a friend went down for a dive in Cirkewwa. I don't dive but went along and snorkelled above them until they disappeared into the abyss. I snorkelled a bit before coming back up feeling a bit 'exposed and alone' without a snorkelling buoy tied to me. The water was heaven and crystal clear and a very refreshing temperature - 19C. Once up and having a lovely quiet read of my book in the late afternoon sun I , yet again, had to thank God for the wonderful life I lead on this tiny bit of rock in the middle of the Med! Sometimes I take so many things for granted and I need to keep reminding myself that people pay hundreds to spend a week or two in a place I live in all year round. Living here is obviously not one big holiday, but I certainly cannot complain!

One of my Favourite Pics

Rider: John Cachia using his new Starboard XTV with a 4.2m Tushingham Rock

The above is my favourite pic at the moment. I took it when we had a very strong WNW wind on the 15th May this year. It was a good day though a bit gusty and the lads were really going for their loops.

AZURE Magazine Now Out

The new publication called 'AZURE' is now out and available free of charge at all the dive shops in Malta and Gozo. Above is a pic of the article and piccies I submitted for the mag and I think it looks really good. I was very impressed with all the content of the magazine - it contains quite a few really interesting articles covering many aspects of various sea orientated past times/hobbies etc. If you can get a copy it is a very worthwhile read whether you are a local or tourist.
