Updating my GoPro Camera Casing

I have decided to update my GoPro camera waterproof casing to a boom mounting one. I have tried all sorts of contraptions with 'not too bad' results but still not satisfied. It doesn't cost much to upgrade the casing, and as I sit looking at endless Youtube footage of windsurfing and looking out onto a totally windless bay the best I can do is make sure I am ready with the photography side of things for the first windy day that appears.
You know things are getting really bad when you look on your windsurfing pals' Facebook and see they are doing stupid things like collecting Animal Farms and partaking in the most ridiculous types of Facebook quizzes. That means the situation is DESPERATE!

Simon's Cat 'Cat Man Do'

I just love the ''Simon's Cat'' cartoons. I have discovered the whole series of them on Youtube so shall be posting them to share a laugh!

My View Right Now!

I took the above pic off the internet, but as I sit here typing this and look out of my 'office' door this is the actual boat I see anchored before my eyes! Although it is not ''my cup of tea'' I have to admit it brings a bit of glamour to the bay. I would rather look out onto something with some sail power (which I often can do.............there are some beauties that sail into the bay).
It is almost 200' in length and is built by Benetti (I think 2008) and is probably chartered like so many of these Superyachts seem to be. So if you have a few hundreds of thousands spare to spend on your holiday you might want something like this..............personally I could think of better ways to spend my money (IF I had it!!)

Malta is Melting!

The past week/10 days here in Malta has been unbearable heatwise. Much hotter than normal for end of August. We have had a southerly current which has brought extra hot, muggy, stifling weather. The sea is 28C (!) - not sure if it usually gets that warm but seems to be warmer than usual to me. Going in for a swim is not at all refreshing unless you're submerged for about an hour!

The weekend is showing a bit of relief with a moderate North Westerly coming our way, hopefully temperatures will start to go down a bit then.

Female Windsurfing Blogs

It is so difficult to find windsurfing blogs belong to ''Ms. Ordinary'' in the windsurfing world. There are, ofcourse, quite a few of the pro and top surfing women blogs which are easy to find.........but what about Ms X who just loves to be out on the water enjoying a hobby that is so much a part of her life?

If anyone knows some site addresses please share them with me. Meanwhile I have found a new site http://www.2windy.com/index.asp?article=windsurfing_women and ofcourse there is Windgirls which is probably the no.1 site now for windsurfing/kiting women.

Tony Wins 1st and 2nd Prize in Santa Maria Competition

Photo:Bunty

Above you can see Anthony (Tony) Grima, our neighbour at Dar Ghax-Xemx in Victoria, Gozo, proudly showing off his winning entries. Tony is making some beautiful sculptures made from the local limestone.
Tony entered two of them into a competition held at Rundle Gardens in Victoria during the Festa of Santa Marija this past weekend. He won both 1st and 2nd prize which he certainly deserves.

Prosit Tony!

Festa Santa Marija in Victoria, Gozo

Photos: Bunty

The above pics were taken this weekend in Victoria, Gozo during the Santa Maria feast. There was a big exhibition of agricultural produce and livestock plus some cultural artistic stands which were very interesting. Prizes were awarded for these displays.

There were the usual fireworks displays, band marches and procession with the statue of Our Lady through the streets of Victoria.

The above pics were taken a few weeks ago in Qbajjar, Gozo. Unfortunately I was up there that day with no equipment...............but new resolution: I HAVE TO SAIL IN THIS PLACE! By the end of the afternoon the wind had increased and the reef was looking great!

Boredom, Sickness and the Need to Windsurf

Pics supplied by Oceansource El Tur

Boredom time as I sit here trying to recover from a mixture of lack of sleep and flu! Flu in the middle of the scorching summer heat makes you feel doubly worse. Though totally ''bla sahha'' (as we say in Maltese - meaning without strength) I am still yearning for a lovely force 6 surfing day. Unfortunately I missed a good day a couple of weeks back cos had to go up to Gozo minus equipment. Still went down to Qbajjar where the Gozo surfers were down and took a few shots of them out near the reef (pics at a later date when I can summon up the energy to find what memory card they on !). This is a place I really want to sail - getting out is a bit tough cos of the wind shadow further in but once out conditions look great. There is also an excellent position for photography as you are perched on the low cliff just above the reef. We really need to make an effort to go up there with our equipment when conditions are next suitable for it.

It has been a couple of years now since we had our last windsurfing holiday and have to admit I am really missing it. After our fantastic Far East hol last December (which was a totally unforgettable experience and think about it very very often) 2009 has had to be very much a ''stay at home'' year ..............but the brain is ticking over with windsurfing plans for next Spring. A place I am really keen to try is El Tur in Egypt. It is a dual location with a wave beach just a few minutes up the road and a flat water area in the main resort. You can read more about it on the link below.

Meanwhile, as I sit here nursing myself amidst trying to keep cool all I can do is go off into a windsurfing dreamland and look forward to the possibility of a future trip to discover some more distant waters!
