Well KL has been a very different part to our holiday. The first day we visited the Petronas Towers - I did make out a whole schedule for the day, but we didn't get further than the towers! The mall there is quite amazing and we spent the entire day in there!! Definitely the most impressive thing about the towers is to view them from the front end of the gardens at night. Words cannot really describe the scene except that it is 'awesome' (as the Americans would say!). They look so stunning and like something out of a sci-fi movie. During the day we also took the opportunity to see the newly released film Australia which is a 'must see'. Although the story side is very obvious and there is the typical soppy romance side the acting is excellent by all three main characters. Infact it is probably one of the best things Nicole Kidman has done.

Yesterday we visited and went up the KL tower. To be honest that was a bit of a disappointment. The view is great ofcourse but the tower is very tired looking and needs a bit of makeover in the visitors areas.

Tonight we leave KL and go back to Singapore for a couple of days before flying back home.

Once back in Sing will try and upload a couple more pics.

Padi fields

Balinese dancer

Well our Bali side of the trip is coming to an end as we fly to KL tomorrow. It has been a great 9 days here and we have seen various aspects of Bali life.
The town we are in right now is called Ubud and if anybody visits Bali you cannot come here without a visit here. Infact I would recommend basing yourself here in Ubud and go out on day trips either hiring a car/scooter or get a driver for the day. Prices are ridiculously cheap and I think you get more of a feeling for Bali in Ubud than staying in the more touristic areas.

Today did a great walk through padi fields and forest - basically got a bit lost but we found our way back through some other village and spoke to some very friendly locals for quite a while on the way.

Next stop KL....................

Ella Fleri Soler has won the Euromed 2008 - an annual international event held in Malta for Optimist Class sailors. During this event there is also a Laser class for those young sailors who have outgrown the Oppie class.

This year I was unable to follow the event closely since being away, but very happy to read that Ella won the Championship and has kept the Maltese flag flying. Well done Ella!

You can read a bit more about it on this link

Before I came on this trip I had every intention to keep this blog updated but so far I have failed miserably! Not having my laptop with me makes it a bit more difficult. Also the internet service is very very slow.

Anyhow since my last installment we have been to a small island off Bali called Nusa Lembongan which was great. You can walk round it in a day if you wish. We walked round about half of it but it is pretty hot work!

We did a great 4 hour trip snorkelling on an outrigger boat. We snorkelled 3 different places and it was like swimming in an aquarium. The colours of the fish and coral are beautiful but watching the behaviour of the fish is fascinating. It makes you appreciate the wonders of nature!

The people here are very very friendly and kind, though some can be a real pest and you have to be quite harsh with them when they keep on and on bothering you for various things like taking you on a boat, trying to sell you soemthing or trying to rent you a bike etc.

We are now back in Bali in a place called Ubud which is inland and the cultural centre of the island of Bali. It is a bustling fascinating place and so far we have just had a glimpse of the market which is just pure buyers and hagglers heaven.

Tomorrow we are going on a day trip with a private driver (very cheap over here!) so looking forward to that. Am also forming alot of interesting ideas for our next house conversion.............lots of fun with that!

As I write Geckos are scurrying all along the wall infront of me, the relaxing sound of water running is all around, the air is balmy warm (though very hot during the day) and I am looking forward to some more good food tonight! Indonesian food is DELICIOUS!

One of the 'boys' standing guard opposite our room! Sanur Bali.

Entrance to our room. Sanur Bali.

Clarke Quay Singapore.

Clarke Quay Singapore.

Well we arrived here late last night and when we reached the hotel it was like walking into a travel brochure! I am thrilled that it is much better than I even hoped for. The whole atmosphere of the place is really exotic. I booked a small family run place not wanting some awful polished resort and it just could not be better.

The architecture is typically Balinese and everyone is so friendly.............sometimes a bit too friendly!

Today is a simple chill out day.Relaxing after the fast pace of life in Singapore. And chilling out we are! What is so nice here and relaxing to the ears is that there seems to be the sound of running water everywhere. Water features here are all part of the architectural environment.
OK time to stop cos this could go on and on and on.

Have tried to get onto my email but with no luck. The computers here are very slow and some things just don't come up. I want to try and get some pics up so will have to see if I can get the camera to work on this computer.

Feeling so relaxed that I just want to lie down and doze off!

Hope my next entry will be a load of photos.

..........NEXT STOP BALI

After 3 great days in Singapore am now at the airport on our way to Bali.
Singapore is a very interesting, bustling city............sooo clean! Had planned to write in more detail about Singapore whilst here but been too busy to do so. Hopefully in Bali will be a bit more relaxed and I may have the time to upload some pics and share on my blog.

Been eating lots and lots of different cuisine..............great fun and delicious. In these few days have had Chinese, Indian, Korean and Japanese!

Time to go!

Update On Speedsailing Record

Just a very quick entry before I leave - it now seems the kiters have been given recognition for holding the record. Have not a clue what has gone on or read anything about it but heard from a friend.

So I suppose that brings an end to the heavy debate that has been going. Personally I never questioned that kiting wasn't sailing - never even thought about it to be honest.

OK I'm off!

Singapore Leg of Volvo Ocean Race

By a great stroke of luck we are going to be in Singapore when the Volvo Ocean Race boats are in the harbour. We won't be there to see them come in but when we get back to Sing toward the end of our trip they should all be in. So that will be great being able to see them close up.
Pic above taken of the VOR site

Finally our big trip is upon us. It will take us the best part of 24 hours to get there...............but that's all part of the adventure. As we travel around for the next 3 weeks I will try to keep my blog updated with out travel news.
Meanwhile here at home it looks like they are in for a week of gale force winds. Enjoy the wind all - this is one time I don't think I am going to mind missing it!

Vestas Sailrocket goes BALLISTIC

Some time back I had an entry about the Vestas Team trying to break the world speed record. It seems they are now the fastest boat on the water. This is an amazing video clip. Thanks Sandro!

Found the above pic on the Peconic Puffin's blog (you can link him on my favourite blogs on the right of this page). This is taken from and is meant to be a wave off the South West of Oz. Personally I think the pics have been touched up. If you go onto the mag and see some of the other pics the amount of water at the top of the wave just looks unreal. I stand to be corrected but I am very sceptical.
